Seismic Refraction for Monitoring

The main purpose of the medodologia to "Refraction" is to obtain a geometrical reconstruction of the sliding surface and a seismic characterize the gravitational movement
The seismic refraction is used to determine a good approximation of the stratigraphy of the subsoil, thus limiting, with considerable savings in time and money, the number of geognostic surveys to be carried out in the area to investigate.

An apparatus for seismic refraction is constituted generally by a seismograph and from a group of geophones (freq.10-14 Hz): it comes to energize the soil by means of the shock wave produced by the explosion of a small charge or from the impact of an abutment bat.The task of the seismograph is to measure the time taken by the seismic disturbance induced in the ground to travel the distance between the source and each geophone, suitably spaced along a profilo.

La of seismic wave propagation velocity depends on the elastic characteristics of the subsoil and from its shape; the relationship between wave speed and distance source-geophone (dromocrona) allows, by applying a series of mathematical formulas, to go up to the thickness of the existing layers in the subsurface.

The equipment used for this type of testing shall compose of the following parts:

- Source system;
- Reception System;
- Data acquisition system;
- Trigger.
